The Poppin' Place originated in April 1979 in the heart
of Hurst, Tx. What once had been a small gas station on Pipeline Rd., Mildred Garner converted into a storefront
with just a few flavors of popcorn. Her shop became known for the delicious popcorn, her hand painted popcorn tins
and great customer service. As time went on, Mildred expanded her storefront, added over 20 new custom flavors,
as well as balloons and various snack mixes and candies. Being a former teacher, she also began offering tours to
preschools and daycares.
In February 2003, Mildred retired
and sold the business to our family. The Garner's and our family have been friends for many
years. Our families attended church together as well. I, Julie Crow, worked for Mildred all thru
high school and part of college. My husband, Daniel Crow, worked during the holiday season. Over the
past few years, it has been our families privilage to carry on the great popcorn tradition that started almost 30 years ago.
We continue to make all of Mildred's custom recipes along with a few new flavors.
Our favorite part of the business
is our customers! We love hearing all of their stories from past visits. It is so much fun to see a customer
bring their children in and tell them about their visits to The Poppin' Place as a child. We also love when
our customers ask us about Mildred! It is such a great reminder of what this store is all about!! Oh and
if you are wondering, Mildred and her family are doing great! She stops by on occasions, she still loves the popcorn!
